_            SAGE, a division of NCSY’s Judaic Scholars Institute, has partnered together with the Aleph Beta institute to provide a meaningful college accredited educational experience for high school students. SAGE allows students from diverse backgrounds and skill sets to study the Bible on a scholarly level. This program will be launched in January 2012.
_             Our inaugural course will be taught by Dr. David Fohrman. Dr. Fohrman, an expert at close reading of sacred texts, regaled his students at the Johns Hopkins University with this course. Now, Dr. Fohrman has recreated the course as an immersive online experience. In it, students will apply a fascinating suite of literary tools to the first twelve chapters of the Book of Genesis, revealing hidden layers of meaning that will delight, surprise and provoke you.

Course Description:
In The Beginning: Genesis Revealed

What does it mean to be human? People talk; we are intelligent; we walk upright. But what if we met an animal who did all this, too? Would we extend to them the right to vote?
This course explores the elusive essence of our humanity in the context of the most ancient and revered text in the Western canon of literature: The Bible.
In the end, you will be left with an experience that will challenge the fairy-tale pre-conceptions many of us have concerning Biblical text - and leave you with a new appreciation of why the Bible continues to be the touchstone of our existence, three thousand years after it was first written.

A list of those institutions can be found at: http://www.nationalccrs.org/colleges_universities/cooperating/home.html.* (Even if your prospective university is not listed that does not mean that they will not accept the credits.)
High School students will receive Independent Study credits by participating in the SAGE program. These credits look great on college applications.

* SAGE cannot guarantee that the credits will be accepted by any university.
